Quick Diets to Help You Lose Weight

Quick-loss, short-term or fad diets are popular for obtaining instant, if temporary, results. Used prior to big events, to remove temporary weight or to jump-start a stalled long-term diet plan, these types of diets can help otherwise healthy individuals achieve their weight-loss goals with a minimum investment of time and effort. Unfortunately, many quick weight-loss plans can leave participants feeling deprived and unsatisfied as they are very restrictive. On the plus side, they can help rapidly shed unwanted pounds and generally last less than a week.

Cabbage Soup Diet

The Cabbage Soup Diet is a seven-day plan that allows you to lose up to ten pounds without going hungry. Any time hunger strikes, you can warm up a big bowl of low-calorie, high-fiber vegetable soup that forms the foundation of the plan. Made with cabbage, peppers, onions, celery, tomatoes and spices, the soup is eaten every day and is part of a low-fat, reduced-calorie meal plan.

You can have as much as you like, but after about four days, many people find the soup must less appealing than they did in the beginning. If you remind yourself on a daily basis that it is only for one week, you should be able to stick to the plan and quickly shed any pounds you put on as a result of holiday eating or temporary overindulgence. This is also an easy way to jump-start a long-term healthy eating plan.

Three Day Diet

As the name implies, the Three Day Diet lasts for only three days, though those who wish to can return to the plan as often as they'd like, providing they resume their normal eating habits for five days between diet cycles. Those who are able to stick to the plan are supposed to be able to drop up to ten pounds within the given time frame by using the detailed low-calorie menu to bolster a lagging metabolism and burn more fat.

Followers of the Three Day Diet are warned to adhere to the given meal plan exactly as it is written, neither over nor under eating, or they may not achieve the desired results. Each day's menu gives dieters approximately 800 calories, while this is extremely low and would be unhealthy for an extended length of time; each day ends with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, giving participants something to look forward to.

Juice Fast

Fasting with fruit and vegetable juice is one of the fastest ways to drop unwanted pounds. It is also one of the most challenging, as no solid food is allowed. In one week, the average person can expect to lose anywhere from 10 to 40 pounds. The amount of total weight loss varies widely and is dependent on the level of physical activity of the participant, the quantity of juice consumed and the body weight of the individual prior to beginning the fast.

The plan is simple: drink unsweetened juice for every meal and any time you're hungry. You should drink at least four 8-ounce glasses each day using a combination of both fruit juices and vegetable juices. The average recommended participation time is between one and seven days, depending on the weight-loss goal of the participant. Since liquids do not satisfy hunger cravings the same way solid food does, however, it can be very difficult to stick with this program for an extended length of time.
