List of High Protein Meals

Protein is a nutrient found in meat, beans, peanut butter and many other types of foods. According to the Absco Fitness web site, protein helps provide our bodies with energy, protect us from illness, recover from injuries and help foster proper bone health. There are many simple meals that are high in protein.

Marinated Herb Chicken

    Marinated herb chicken receives a high dose of protein from the chicken. Using lean chicken removes much of the fat that makes eating meat unhealthy. The ingredients for the dish include ground pepper, poultry herbs, sea salt, virgin olive oil and chicken breast. Preparation includes seasoning the chicken with the salt and black pepper and adding the seasoning. Season the chicken by placing it in a plastic bag with the seasoning letting it marinate for two hours. The chicken is then baked for 45 minutes in a 350 degree preheated oven. Mix with green beans and romaine lettuce for added taste and texture.

Black Eyed Peas and Leeks

    This easy recipe includes high protein black eyed peas and leeks. Ingredients include leeks, black eyed peas, dried marjoram, dried tarragon, virgin olive oil, unsalted butter and fine grain sea salt. The recipe requires heating one tablespoon of olive oil along with one tablespoon of butter. While boiling, add salt and four sliced leeks until the leeks are golden brown. Mix in three cups of black eyed peas, heat until well cooked, stir in a quarter teaspoon of marjoram, a teaspoon of tarragon, a pinches of salt and two tablespoons of butter. Cook and season to taste and serve on its own.

G.L.O.P.

    G.L.O.P. is an incredibly high protein meal designed by Steve Henneberry, a former "American Gladiator" star. He used it to help build muscles to improve his performance on the show. The name stands for "get lots of protein." It requires fat free ground turkey, instant long grain brown rice, picante sauce and low fat cottage cheese. It is cooked in a skilled on top of a stove. He cooked 16 ounces of turkey in the skillet until it was brown and then stirred in a 16 ounce jar of picante sauce to let it simmer. While simmering, he would cook the instant brown rice and would then place all the food into one large bowl. He then mixed in eight ounces of the cottage cheese. The high volume of food in this meal makes it preferable to eat in two sittings, placing the leftovers in a fridge overnight.

Snacks

    High protein snacks can help give a quick dose of protein that may lack in the rest of a diet. Beef jerky has lots of protein and very little fat, as the fat is removed when the meat is dried. Jerky in health food stores contains less salt than jerky found in normal convenience stores. Eggs are high in protein but the yolks have lots of fat. Boiling eggs and removing the yolk creates a high protein low fat snack. Cottage cheese has lots of protein but is naturally low in fat, especially when compared to other cheeses. Tuna contains no fat but high doses of protein. Finally, protein bars can be an excellent, on the go source of protein.
